She has completely aft a well ventilated saloon, plainly and neatly painted light green and white, as best suited for the hot climate. Has a very sharp forward, and sits high out of the water.
History:25th September 1854. Sailed from Plymouth, Captain Barnwell, for Madeira, Tenerife, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. She takes specie and a quantity of manufactured goods for the coast, and carries on deck, in separate parts, an iron boat of 40 tons, build at Woolwich, for the Commissary-General at Sierra Leone, and a canoe, 30 feet long, for service at Accra. She also takes out a large number of passengers among are 33 Spanish negroes from Havannah being sent to Lagos by the British Government.

A British trader at Elobey had been murdered by the natives; he was shot in the groin. His head was cut off in the presence of his wife.
