History:19th December 1845. Mr. Wigram, of Blackwall, has been ordered by the Board of Admiralty to build an 18-gun corvette, to be called the ‘Arachne’, on the lines of the Surveyor of the Navy.
January 1846. Quarter built at Plymouth.
9th January 1847. Building is to be completed as soon as possible.
8th April 1847. Has been docked and coppered.
15th May 1847. To be fitted with a screw of 300 horse power.
29th May 1847. Fitting with dispatch.
10th December 1847. Captain Chads appointed to the ship.
January 1848. Devonport.
20th December 1848. Devonport.
11th July 1850. She was warped from her moorings to the sheer hulk; her mast were taken out and stored.
19th July 1850. Has been docked to be repaired.
16th August 1850. Repairs having been completed, she was taken out of No2 dock, Devonport.
29th October 1855. Commanded by Commander Valentine Otway Inglefield, North America and West Indies Station.
8th August 1857. Arrived off Cuba to be employed in the suppression of the slave trade.
September 1857. Departed from off Cuba.
February 1860. Devonport. Commanded by Commander John Eglinton Montgomerie, West Indies station.
28th March 1860. Paid off.
1866. Disposed of.
